Coding for Kids

This training introduces children to the basics of app design, computer science and design thinking. The children will have hands on experience producing their codes and applications using a combination of MIT's App Inventor programming and Google's CS First curriculum. Students learn hands-on with step-by-step instructions for building lots of fun projects. Children will then use the "LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 31313 Robot Kit" to learn some robot programming. Parents ARE NOT required to buy this kits but any parent that wishes do so can; this will help the child have more exploration time at home.

Venue

Past classes held at Campbell Boulevard, Nottingham, MD, 21236 and some sessions will hold there. If we have up to 5 people registering from a location around the DMV, the instructor can come there with the kits for the training. The more children we have in a location the better.

Requirements
The program is for curious 8 years old and above. We encourage at least 1 parent to accompany their children so they can provide some support when the child returns home. The child will need a laptop for the sessions.

A laptop (Windows or Mac) and charger per child. We will have some laptops available to loan children that do not have laptops. These will be available on a first come first serve basis and the laptops will be available for the duration of the class.
